Niagara Falls here we come!
In college we never did anything for spring break. None of us ever the money. One year we decided we were going to take a trip to Niagara falls! Yep you heard me correctly. a group of us were going to drive to Niagara Falls from our little State University in Pennsylvania. It was only like a 4-5 hour drive. so really not that bad right? what could go wrong.
Well you you have college kids going to the honeymoon capital of the worked you can bet SOMETHING will go wrong. Well we loaded up the car in March and headed North. Keep in mind we are doing a day trip go up and come back. Easy as can be. Something tells me now we should have thought this through more before we left.
Our first Stop Angola. Angola is this cool rest area on the New York Through way that spans both sides of the road. You park and walk across an elevated enclosed walkway OVER THE HIGHWAY. Well it is all coll when you are in college to stand in the middle of the walkway and scream bloody murder as the semis come right at you. That is until security starts coming at you. OK maybe we have had enough fun. Off to the falls!
So we get to the boarder and have bridge fees and boarder check. Crap did we all bring our ID? after a mad scramble looking we are good. But one of the guys couldn't find his wallet. Turns out it fell under the seat. Then we weren't sure if we had cash on us. We really should have planned this better.
So we finally make it to the Falls viewing area park the car gather what jackets we brought. FYI sorority jackets are not good in Niagara Falls in March! And the guys were useless because it was cold! They were freezing we all were. So we get to the railing and say cool it is like 10 PM maybe 11 PM and we get to see the colored lights change on the falls.
So we get our cameras out and run to the rail and click. Total darkness. Yep we got there just in time to see them turn off the lights for the night! We could see nothing. Except you could hear the running which was really weird in the dark and all was good until something crawled over the railing at us! So after we all screamed and turned to run and the guys used us girls as a human shields to protect themselves . The fattest raccoon you ever did want to see came wandering out of the shadows.
So we drove all that way, froze half to death, never got to see the falls and got the beejeevies scarred out of us by a raccoon. But even something like 17 years later I remember this so well.

This is by far my favorite story about spring break.
I had just finished up my divorce and with my portion of the settlement from the sale of the house, I decide to take the girls on our first trip to WDW.
So, April 2004 my daughters and I are walking to the buses at Port Orleans, we are on the path that goes by the pool so its rather heavy with bushes and apparently wildlife as my oldest daughter soon found out. My daughter Heather, then she was 16 yrs old, is walking past the pool wearing a skirt and shirt carrying her autograph book and not paying attention to anything.
My youngest daughter is walking with me and we are about 5 to 6 feet behind her listening to her game plan for the day, she is my commando after all. So out of the bushes jumps a squirrel who apparently knew Heather and was vacationing at Port Orleans as well, the squirrel runs up Heather's leg and hugs her thigh, she screamed and threw her autograph book in the air, lost a flip flop and dropped everything else she was carrying.
The scream caused the squirrel to drop his autograph book and lose his flip flops as he ran away. Kay and I watched the whole thing and and instantly fall to the ground laughing, I did ask Heather if she was injured after I got done laughing.. I have never seen a squirrel hug someones leg nor had I heard a scream like that.

So that is how my daughters and I spent our spring break. * no the squirrel didn't have an autograph book or flip flops, but if he did I am sure he would have lost them*.
Thank you
